Funky Monks...

For some reason I'm going through a big 80's electro funk phase, read below for my top trax in this much malagined but influential genre (the pic is a talk box by the way, as used by Zapp)...

1) Heartbreaker by Zapp

The titular woman treats Rodg so bad, she sold his precious collection of talk boxes to buy jewels, she said his glittery suit and PTM combo was naff and then she ran off with Prince who had a bigger vocoder..but Rodger doesn't mind as she gave him the inspiration for this glittering electro novelty...odd how contemporary it sounds?

2) Tonight by Kleeer

More pornographic squelching synth pads and oily slightly creepy vocoder...sort of the sound track to a pedophile convention in Dusseldorf..introduced to me only a week ago by a student.

3) Glide by Pleasure

The slappathon to end all slappathons...

4) Single Life by Cameo

Jolly lyrical meditation on swinging, but the eery music sounds completely grim however like Larry Blackmon just caught the clap from a lady boy...

5) Busting' Out by Material

Relentless urban art funk by Bill Lazwell and former Labelle singer Nona Hendryx..they were told by a deranged millionaire to make a hit disco record and spent loads of money producing this racket, it sank like a stone...

6) Ghetto Life by Rick James

The lizard like Mr James looked like a cross between Cher and Tutankhamen but that did not stop him producing a classic album in Street Songs, this being the best cut..
