The humble ferret is a surprisingly unheralded influence on heavy rock music, but every time a lead guitarist steps up to strut his stuff the small woodland predator makes his presence felt....
Here are my top six ferret faced heroes and the category of ferret they represent. Feel free to suggest your favorites.
1) Carlos Santana aka "King Ferret" against whom all must be judged. Carlos is an innovator in both his famous sustained guitar technique and his astounding ability to look like a ferret.
2) Paul Kossoff aka "Ferret Cross Bred with Mountain Orc". It gets cold in the alps of Middle Earth and sometimes you just need to curl up with whatever you can find, the Alpine Ferret proving a companionable mate.
3) Michael Schenker aka "Ferret Orgasming". Hey even ferrets have sexual fantasies, like being a blond viking playing a flying V.
4) Eddie Van Halen aka "The Tapping Ferret", a rare breed that only survives in the billowing coke dunes surrounding LA and emits the sound of a thousand bees making lurrrve.
5) Mick Ronson aka "The Felated Ferret". Poor Mick's career never recovered from being blown by Bowie on stage on '72, the only way to hide his shame was to disguise himself as a ferret.
6) Jimmy Page aka "The Well Dressed Ferret", what woodland party could fail to be impressed by this silk ensemble? Add the heroin fried sneer to the look and you are truly rocking.
Chez chez la femme!
