If you've got a few hours to spare, check out the Daily Adventures of Mixerman. It tells the story of a recording job from hell. Many familiar situations for those who've been there, many lessons for those on their way...
(Unfortunately, you'll need to buy the book to see how it all ends...)
Will we ever appreciate drummers?
ReplyDeleteI did some half arsed research and the consensus seems to be that mixer man is Eric Serafin and the band Nine Days, who scored a hit with "Absolutely", a song about their A&R woman. But there are several other plausible theories including a crazy one that figures there is a code in the chapter titles and the band is The Ataris. The problem is that the singer in the book is meant to be good looking while the singer in the The Ataris looks like a pig so I'm sticking with Nine Days!
ReplyDeleteFucking hilarious book, however Mixerman sounds like a right old hippy what with his jossticks, lava lamps and drapes in the studio...I'd be like "fuck off I don't want to sound like the Dead!"
